We leave Jerusalem through
the Judean Desert, and view the spectacular hanging Monastery
of St. George in Wadi Qelt. We descend to the Syrian-African Rift
Valley and Dead Sea and continue below sea level to the site of Qumran.
Here we stop and see the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were
found and explore the site where some think they were written. Driving
along the shores of the Dead sea (the lowest point on the face of the
earth), we pass Ein Gedi a true oasis in the desert. At Masada
we ascend the mountain via the cable car, visiting tthe truly amazing
buildings and architecture of King Herod, including the synagogue, palaces
and bath house. Where the heroic and tragic events happened 2000 years
ago short while after the destruction of the Temple. From there to the
Dead Sea itself for some "swimming" and application of "medicinal"
mud. A the end of a fascinating and exhilarating day we return to Jerusalem.
